How do I order a cake?

The first step will be contacting us via email, our contact form or over the phone. If you wish you can also stop by our store. The things you should tell us about are: type of event (birthday, wedding, baby shower, corporate, etc.), number of guests, date and location of the event. Also, please give us some information about the theme of the celebration, things that inspire you, cakes you saw and liked, design elements you would like us to incorporate, etc.
We will send you some cake design ideas, along with the price per serving for each option. Once you decide which cake fits you best (design, flavors, servings, etc.), we will reserve the date for you and ask you for a deposit. Then we will send you a sketch of the cake that will be made especially for you.

Do you ship cakes?

At Mia Cake House we do not ship cakes. Due to the delicate nature of our decorated cakes and the work that goes into each and every one of our art creations, our cakes are available only via store pickup, or hand-delivered to you by our staff.

Can I visit your atelier?

You can always stop by and say HI in our Plantation store. We cannot guarantee that our cake designer will be available to greet you, nor that you can enter our studio or kitchen (due to health regulations we cannot accept visits while working on a cake). But we do love to receive visitors. If you wish to visit our atelier and kitchen, just call and schedule an appointment for a consultation with our cake designer.

Why do Mia Cake House creations cost more than some other bakeries?

Mia Cake House is a novelty cake shop. We pride ourselves on the works of art that we deliver to our customers. You cannot expect all cars, watches or clothing to cost the same. Some are more expensive than others, depending on the quality of the materials and workmanship. We will make every effort to work within your budget and we always aim to exceed your expectations. The cost per serving depends on the design and complexity of each cake. The more complex the design, the higher the price will be. For example: a round cake will cost less than a sculpted cake that requires hours of preparation. A 3 tier cake with lots of details on each tier will cost more than a 3 tier without decorations. And so forth. Every creation that comes out of our atelier is specially handcrafted for each client. We do not replicate cakes from catalogs or websites. Your cake is unique and can take up to 24 hours to create. We use only the freshest and finest ingredients as well as state of the art techniques to deliver our art.
All designs start at $6/serving, and our minimum order for custom designs is $150. In a world where an ice cream cone can cost $3-5 dollars, we believe that our pricing is competitive and represents the work and dedication that we put into our creations.
Toppers are priced apart and their price depend on their size and design.

Do I have to pay for the cake ahead of time?

Mia Cake House requires a non-refundable deposit at the time an event date is secured (see our cake deposit page). The outstanding balance must be paid upon delivery or pickup, except for wedding cakes, which require the balance to be paid in full ten (10) working days prior to the event date

What is your cancellation policy?

In the event of cancellation 7 to 14 days before the event, we will apply the deposit payment toward a rescheduled event within six months of the original date. Cancellation or rescheduling less than 7 days prior to the event may result in deposit forfeiture and/or an additional charge to your cake to cover expenses incurred.

What are your accepted methods of payment?

We accept all major credit and debit cards, cash and company checks.

Can you recreate a cake by another designer I saw online?

All our cakes are original and unique. Nevertheless, we will be more than happy to receive from you images of cakes you liked, sketches, design elements you would like to incorporate into the cake, etc. Sometimes customers will like a design that we have previously made for someone else, and will request that we recreate that cake for them. We will sometimes do this, but we try to add a unique touch to each cake, so that no two creations are ever quite the same.

Do you always use fondant in your cakes?

The cake is our canvas, and the fondant with its creative properties provides our colors. The art we create cannot be accomplished with buttercream by itself, and without fondant our cakes would be boring (though still delicious!). Beneath the thin layer of fondant that encapsulates the cake and keeps it fresh, you will find a layer of buttercream frosting, so if you don’t wish to eat the fondant you can just leave it on the plate.

Are there any other fees?

There is a delivery and assembly fee for any cake requiring offsite assembly at the event venue. This is standard for any cakes of 3 tiers or more, as well as for cakes with complicated designs that may topple during delivery. Once the dewsign and delivery address are given we will let you know the delivery & assembly fee.

How do I cut this thing?

A serrated kitchen knife is best for serving a fondant-covered cake. Also, each cake will be delivered with instructions indicating whether there are dowels in the cake, and if there are parts of the decorations that are thus made out of sugar should not be eaten.

Do I have to refrigerate it?

NO! The cake should not be refrigerated before presentation. The cake comes out of our atelier freshly prepared, and as it is sealed by the fondant, the cake can be kept at room temperature (less than 76F) for 48 hours and will remain fresh and moist. Putting the cake in the fridge can ruin it. As you move it from the cold environment to room temperature it will condensate, the fondant will become moist, and colors will run – that is something you do not want to happen.
So, keep the cake at room temperature, away from the sun or any source of heat, and if your event is at night be sure to place the cake under cover so it does not get moist from the dew. After presenting and cutting the cake, you are free to refrigerate it or even freeze it as you wish!
